This week at XOYO…
FUN.:
New York band Fun – who come to XOYO tonight, are the group behind the biggest single in the US this year, and the first No 1 rock single in almost four years. The song, We Are Young, has now sold 3.6 million copies and been a huge success, expect this sell out show to be something to see!
GOSSIP:
Having just released 'A Joyful Noise' Beth Ditto and co come to XOYO for their album launch party! The new album is bold, brassy and accesible, to say we're looking forward to it would be an understatement. Speaking about working with Mark Ronson (who co-produced the album) frontwoman Beth Ditto recently told NME: "One of our most common bonds was that we both loved big voices, church voices. "He loves country music, which is a big deal to me because, you know, in terms of things I love, country music is probably number one, then it's punk and hip-hop."
NIKI & THE DOVE:
The amazing NIKI & THE DOVE follow up their string of sellout shows with a headline date on Wednesday. Gustaf Karlöf and Malin Dahlström have been threatening to launch the latest offensive of striking Scandinavian pop on these shores for almost two years. The Fox and The Drummer EPs in 2011 were held to critical acclaim, with Instinct released this week, sure to be another critical success.
SHABAZZ PALACES:
Shabazz Palaces hit up XOYO on Wednesday, Black Up is the new sonic move from the hip hop collective. Like rich velvet hijabs or gold threaded abayas. Luxury as understood by the modest. Shabazz Palaces. If Bedouins herded beats instead of goats and settled in Seattle instead of the Atlas Mountains, this would be their album. Forward thinkers but nostalgic for a sparer time when ancient astronomers only recognized five planets. Hip hop. Black light uses electromagnetic radiation to eradicate microorganisms, but shabazz didn’t come to kill a sound, just to shine their own incandescent lamp on this. Hear. Hard and clear. Fifty thousand years in the making. Honorable.—palaceer pink gators.
BASSLACED 4TH BIRTHDAY BASH!:
Basslaced celebrate their 4th birthday lineup with a monster lineup that includes, TROLLEY SNATCHA, THE OTHERS, PLASTICIAN & D DOUBLE E, FRED V & GRAFIX, DREAM, JACK SWIFT & MORE, expect a HUGE night! Here's a personal favourite of ours from headliner Trolley Snatcha....
STANDARD PLACE:
Where to begin with Todd Edwards is nigh on impossible, the inimitable collage production, the prolific output, the haul of solid gold classics. Certainly, very few garage producers have come close to his legendary status, but we’ll spare you the hyperbole. Standard Place make their debut inside XOYO, alongside the legendary Todd Edwards, they bring residents Oneman, Reecha and Jon Rust to proceedings, get to know Standard Place more below...
And here's a Todd Edwards classic to get you ready!

This week at XOYO…
We're heading full force into May, with a selection of fantastic live shows and club nights this week....
Yacht:
YACHT bring their multifaceted show to XOYO this week.
YACHT was born in 2002 in Portland, Oregon as a solo cross-disciplinary experiment for Jona Bechtolt, using technology to extend physical boundaries of communication, performance, and music. In 2008, after a shared mystical experience in the Far West Texas desert, Bechtolt was joined in the YACHT endeavor by longtime collaborator Claire L. Evans. Spurred by this paranormal bond, this new incarnation of YACHT wrote and recorded “See Mystery Lights” in Marfa, Texas. In 2010, The Straight Gaze — Robert “Bobby Birdman” Kieswetter and Jeffrey “Jerusalem” Brodsky — rounded out the live presentation of all YACHT music.
Grimes:
There is a powerful harmony in Grimes. It is a project which is both musical and visual, embodying the arts of 2D, performance, dance, video and sound. Claire Boucher weaves these together to a strong rhythmic effect, “the marriage between the voice of a human and the heartbeat of a machine”. Each album tackles a different set of influences and styles. Her newest album, Visions, incorporates influences as wide as Enya, TLC and Aphex Twin, drawing from genres like New Jack Swing, IDM, New Age, K-pop, Industrial and glitch. This approach has marked Grimes as a curator of culture, and allowed the project to remain flexible and evolving, this gig is sold out and rightly so, expect a captivating performance.
Brother Ali:
Brother Ali is an inspiration. Bedded down with Minneapolis’ pioneering Rhymesayers crew (home to Atmosphere and Eyedea & Abilities), Brother Ali has faced huge obstacles in his life and has overcome them with resolute determination, releasing acclaimed releases such as The Undisputed Truth – 2007, and Shadows on the Sun – 2003, along the way, he brings his magnetic presence to XOYO and we can't wait!
VERSUS Planet Mu:
This Friday sees a slew of top Mu acts will be performing live at XOYO. The main attraction is retro-futurist Kuedo, who’ll be presenting the UK debut of his live show. Last year’s Severant LP was a striking collection of Vangelis-inspired melodrama, and his distinctive atmospherics should sound all the more involving pumped through big speakers. The ever-industrious Machinedrum will also be performing: anticipate skittering footwork rhythms and impressive bass frequencies.
The Host – better known as Boxcutter – will be on hand to provide some vintage synth-play. Last month’s self-titled debut was a misty treat; let’s hope XOYO dust off some dry ice machines for the occasion. Wonky popster Rudi Zygadlo will bring the weird. His bonkers songs aren’t short on surface sheen, but they also pack a serious punch. Woozy youngster Tropics rounds out the bill.
Check out Kuedo's recent performance in the Boiler Room below...
GASP:
Codekontrol are at it again.! GASP comes back to XOYO, and what an audio treat they have in store for you. Coming at you with a full audio assault, is the simply brilliant Konrad Black. Hailing from the superb Minus (M_nus) family, he is making the trip to London to deliver a performance that we are SURE is going to be more than exceptional. His growing reputation for sending crowds of very happy clubbers into a dancefloor frenzy is becoming synonymous with what you have all come to expect from any artist whom is part of the Minus family.

This week….
From White Rabbits to Lil B, it's an action packed week at XOYO...
White Rabbits:
Having just released their new album 'Milk Famous' the title of the record as explained by Stephen Patterson, “To be known but not for something you intended to be known for.” Which you may have figured out on your own. Or you might have wondered for a while what it meant if he hadn't said that. Or just wondered what becomes of the truly "Milk Famous" late in their careers. Like Bobby Brown. Is he alive? I mean, how stupid are you going to feel if you're trying to think of other people who are “Milk Famous” when Bobby Brown could be lying face down in a ditch?"
Bedrock:
Thursday see's the season finale of John Digweed's Bedrock, if you haven't been then now is your final chance before the summer, the first Thursday's in 2012 at XOYO have been amazing with John Digweed and Jozif taking over, be sure to get your tickets on the link below for what is sure to be a sellout, get your tickets by clicking on the image below.

Little Boots:
With a new album imminent, we got a taste of Little Boot's new material when she released 'Every Night I Say A Prayer' through legendary label Trax for Record Store Day, which was sublimely remixed by Tensnake, one things for sure, the new incarnation of Little Boots veers away from the pop mainstream of 2009 and into a new era...

'Roska 2' album launch:
“Rinse presents Roska 2” on Friday. Roska’s hand picked the line up himself to make the best of the party and quite rightly, it’s making all the right noises. Released on the 28th May, we celebrate with Roska & Jamie George, Artwork & MC Script, MJ Cole, Dismantle & DJ Champion.
Lil B (Based God)
Lil B's charm lies in a beautifully unpretentious, unconventional and wickedly unprecedented juxtaposition of emotion and "based" technique, making for an undeniably compelling listen. Lil B makes a wondrously odd, abstracted sort of music, and it will never be for everybody. But B knows who his music is for: "This for everybody that/ They think so hard, man they thoughts be so deep/ And don't nobody believe 'em/ But I believe you". This show sees Lil B performing a unique, tailored 90+ minute set and will be meeting and greeting audience members after the show to chat, take photos and hang out.
Just Beats:
Joining Just Beats this Friday will be Rudimental, currently having their most successful year to date after the releases of ‘Spoons’ and ‘Deep in the Valley’, the group are currently going from strength to strength. Joining them on the night playing the best in uplifting and deep house shall be, Ana Stancu/Scholar Tee/Micah Fish/David Bailey and more...
Hidden Orchestra:
One of the biggest discoveries of 2011, Hidden Orchestra are back in London with their biggest headline show to date. The Scottish quartet now head our way to deliver their bass heavy, brooding and beautiful sounds.
